Hello everyone, welcome back to my blog. My name is Jai, and I’m delighted to share my experience visiting Alishan National Scenic Area.
As an international student who has been studying and living in Taiwan for the past three years, I hope my experience can be helpful to others planning a visit.
To begin with, I didn’t need to pay for admission because I was a student, and my visit happened to fall on a government holiday. One important tip: be sure to bring a valid ID—such as your passport or student card—when purchasing tickets, as admission fees vary depending on your eligibility.
I visited in October, when the weather was pleasantly mild. The comfortable climate made it perfect for exploring on foot, so I chose to walk around rather than take the train. I’d love for you to join me as I share this journey.

The journey begins along a scenic pathway. I highly recommend taking a walk—especially if you’re a young traveler—as it offers a wonderful opportunity to fully appreciate the surroundings. The towering trees, open sky, and tranquil atmosphere create a refreshing experience that truly allows you to pause and breathe.
The path itself is clean, well-maintained, and thoughtfully organized, making it comfortable to walk at a relaxed pace and enjoy each step. Along the way, I also noticed many elderly visitors strolling slowly, taking their time to appreciate the beauty and serenity of the environment.

As you venture deeper into the forest, the temperature gradually drops, so I recommend bringing a coat to stay warm. If you’re sensitive to cooler weather, having an extra layer will make your visit much more comfortable. I arrived in the afternoon, when sunlight was limited, but the natural surroundings remained just as beautiful. Wearing a coat not only keeps you warm but also adds a sense of comfort while exploring the more secluded areas.
Another important point to note is that there are many stairs throughout the area. Fortunately, they are clean, well-maintained, and safe to use. However, it’s best to wear non-slip shoes to ensure stability while walking. While the stairs may not be challenging for most visitors, they are something to consider if you are traveling with elderly companions.

As I made my way further in, I reached a central area with a spacious rest stop where you can find restrooms, food stalls, drinking water, and souvenir shops. Since I arrived later in the afternoon and was quite hungry, this stop was especially convenient.
I took a break there, enjoyed some local street food—such as grilled sausage and roasted meat—and picked up a few souvenirs. It’s a pleasant spot to relax, have a meal at your own pace, breathe in the fresh air, and take in the surrounding views.

In my opinion, this was the most breathtaking scene during my visit in October. Even so, I could imagine how different—and perhaps even more stunning—the landscape would be at other times of the year. With so many trees surrounding the area, it likely transforms into a vibrant display of blossoms during the flowering season.
If you’re especially fond of flowers, I would recommend visiting between January and February, when you can fully enjoy the beauty of peach blossoms. The combination of soft mist drifting through the forest and delicate flowers in bloom creates a romantic and almost dreamlike atmosphere, adding a deeper sense of serenity to the experience.

As I reached this final area, it felt both like an ending and a new beginning to the journey. The atmosphere brought me a deep sense of peace, allowing my mind to truly relax and reset. As someone who tends to be more introverted, I found this place especially meaningful—it gave me the space to reflect, reconnect with myself, and regain a sense of inner energy.
Although it may not be the kind of place that immediately overwhelms you with excitement, it leaves a lasting impression in a quieter, more thoughtful way. It’s a place that gently touches your mind and stays with you. I believe I will return here in the future, especially during times when I need clarity and a sense of calm.
